Barriers and Keys to Effective Family Devotions
A summary of key points made by Bruce Wilkinson on our broadcast "Effective Family Devotions."
Seven common hindrances to family devotions:
- Lack of time and/or energy
- Children don't want them
- Spouse doesn't want them
- The children's ages are too varied
- Previous failure
- Not knowing the Bible well enough
- A sense of inadequacy
Five key components for family devotions:
- The family devotion should be a regularly scheduled activity.
- It should include all family members. If not all family members are present, do the devotion anyway with those who are.
- The devotion should include meaningful activities and family interaction.
- The devotion should be centered around the Bible and relevant life situations.
- It should be aimed at building godly character and habits.
