In December, 2007, teen sisters Stephanie and Rachel Works were shot to death by gunman Matthew Murray at New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colo. Here are a few details about Stephanie and Rachel which have been excerpted from their obituaries:

Stephanie (18):
  • Stephanie was born with six toes — just like her father!
  • She was home schooled and an active member of "the MILL," the college age ministry at New Life Church.
  • Stephanie had a strong mind and was an avid learner. She was very friendly, outgoing and was "motherly" in her care for others.
  • She had a "take charge" attitude and loved writing (especially fictional stories), fly fishing, music and travel.
  • Stephanie had recently returned from a mission trip to China.
  • Stephanie strove to get to know a person's heart … not just what was on the surface.
  • She was also passionately expressive in her worship towards the Lord.
  • Stephanie played chess with her younger sister Gracie every day.

Rachel (16):
  • Like Stephanie, Rachel was home schooled and an active member of "the Mill," the college age ministry at New Life Church.
  • Rachel was very artistic in her approach to life. She was a romantic and loved the epics. She also loved dance and music.
  • Rachel got teased for having blond hair, so she had decided to color her hair red because of all the blonde jokes.
  • She also loved making up stories with video clips.
  • Rachel enjoyed traveling, especially to Brazil, Mexico and China on youth mission trips.
