What You Can Do Today for a Cleaner Home
Emilie Barnes offers a plan for those feeling overwhelmed at the thought of cleaning and de-cluttering their home.
- Get three black trash bags and a timer.
- Label your bags "give away," "throw away" and "put away."
- Walk out your front door, turn around, come back in. Set your timer for 15 minutes.
- Start with your hall closet or your room to your right or left, and work your way clockwise around that room.
- Analyze each item; if it's ripped or broken, throw it away. If it hasn't been used in a year, consider giving it away. If you can't bear to part with it, store it. If you're using it regularly, keep it!
- After 15 minutes, set everything aside until tomorrow (maybe in the garage).
- Repeat until you've covered every room or closet in the house.
- Now, repeat this process with 15 minutes of cleaning.
